It’s been quite the week! We hope you have been able to watch some of the Harris/Walz rallies this week. The energy is off the charts. We love that the message is all about freedom, compassion, and JOY.
Election Therapy
Mara Novak here. I’ve been part of the NJ 11th for Change leadership team since 2019, and have been Co-Executive Director since 2020. Thrilled to say that Judy Kelly has returned as Co-executive Director for this election cycle!
Normally the voice of this newsletter is in the collective we, because our work is all about THE POWER OF US. But I want to use this space just once for a personal story. There are two kinds of states: those that do their best to support their citizens’ right to vote … and those that do their worst to suppress that right.
RIGHT?
And New Jersey. Ah, New Jersey. We’re one of the states that supports the right of citizens to vote, right?
RIGHT?
Not always.
Not right now.
Right now, NJ is wrestling with the idea of same-day voter registration: allowing citizens who want to vote, and who are legally entitled to vote, to register on Election Day at their polling place. Legislation that proposes this access-positive policy — A1966/S247 — has been stalled in Trenton for over a year.
