DELANEY HALL CALLS TO ACTION

We continue to urge everyone to contact both our state and federal legislators to urge them to support the Delaney Hall detainees and their families. Please call/email everyone on these contact lists.

Remind them what the participants in the strike are calling for:

  1. An immediate in-person meeting with Governor Mikie Sherrill at Delaney Hall to directly observe conditions and hear testimony from detained individuals.
  2. The immediate release of vulnerable detainees, including elderly individuals, pregnant women, young people, and those with serious medical conditions.
  3. Meaningful review of immigration cases and habeas filings
  4. An end to coercive pressure to sign deportation or voluntary departure documents.
  5. Restore visitation for Units 2A and 2B at Delaney Hall

Call #1

Tell Gov. Sherrill and our state legislators: Fund Lawyers for ICE Detainees!

Gov. Mikie Sherrill: (609) 292-6000

NJ Senate President Scutari: (732) 827-7480

NJ Assembly Speaker Coughlin: (732) 855- 7441

Find your State Legislators:

https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/legislative-roster

Contact Governor Mikie Sherrill and your state legislators today and urge them to expand DDDI funding to $20 million—because every New Jersey resident deserves due process.

New Jersey's Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative (DDDI) is a lifeline for immigrant communities facing an unprecedented 400% surge in ICE arrests and detentions—but it's critically underfunded. Currently, DDDI providers can offer full legal representation to just 18% of the detained New Jersey residents who need it.

The impact of legal representation is profound: detained immigrants with legal counsel are 10.5 times more likely to win their cases. Increasing DDDI funding from $8.2 million to $20 million would allow providers to represent far more residents, keep families together, and uphold the due process values New Jersey has long championed.

Call script:

Demand full funding for the Detention & Deportation Defense Initiative (DDDI) in the NJ Budget, which provides legal defense for detained immigrants.

Immigrants in deportation proceedings are not guaranteed the right to a government-appointed lawyer.

CALL #2

Tell Congress: Defund ICE and Show Up for Immigrants at Delaney Hall!

Please take action now to tell your member of Congress to visit Delaney Hall NOW to conduct a lawfully authorized oversight visit. And urge them to vote in the upcoming reconciliation bill to defund ICE. This violent agency doesn't deserve a penny of taxpayer dollars.

Note that Senators Booker and Kim, and Representatives McIver, Mejia, Menendez, Pallone, and Pou have all been at Delaney Hall this past week. Thank them and urge them to continue to do oversight visits. If your representative is not on this list, ask them why!

For several days now, immigrants detained inside Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, have been on hunger and labor strike, placing their health and safety at risk to expose the abuse and conditions they are experiencing inside the facility. ICE officers have ignored immigrant pleas and retaliated against those peacefully protesting inside and outside their walls.

As the Trump administration escalates its attacks on immigrant communities through detention and mass deportation, and Congress prioritizes giving ICE billions more dollars to carry out its mass deportation agenda, Delaney Hall is a stark example of what immigration detention is—a violent, cruel system where people's basic human rights are violated.

CALL # 3

NJ Must Divest from ICE Contractors!

The pensions of New Jersey's hard working public sector workers are invested in some of ICE's top corporate contractors. Companies like Geo Group, which owns and administers the Delaney Hall detention center where hundreds of immigrant detainees are on a hunger strike over poor conditions, and Palantir Technologies, the multi-billion dollar company responsible for providing ICE with the surveillance technology it needs to hunt, abduct and disappear immigrants -- and even U.S. citizens.

Call Governor Mikie Sherrill today and tell her to divest from Palantir Technologies immediately! No taxpayer dollars should line the pockets of companies that are causing our communities harm.
