“Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it.”
— John Lewis, 2020
On his last days, John Lewis penned a letter to America titled “Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation”. Give it a read again. It is still as relevant as it was five years ago.
Tomorrow, on the anniversary of his passing, John Lewis’s call for good trouble is being heard at Good Trouble Lives On events across the country. NJ 11th for Change will be out there too.
Join us tomorrow, Thursday July 17, at Morris Township Town Hall at 6:00 pm for speakers, music, and good trouble. Bring your signs and stop by the NJ 11th for Change table for swag and actions! Register here for details and updates: https://www.mobilize.us/john-lewis-actions/event/805644/
We recognize that not everyone has the privilege to attend an in-person event. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take action! Introducing … the NJ 11th for Change Good Trouble Challenge!

Between July 17 and August 7, we challenge you to complete 11 of these Good Trouble actions. Send us an email at [email protected] with a screenshot or photo of your filled-out challenge card and you will receive our limited edition Good Trouble button! Download a printable version of the challenge here. Then head to our Good Trouble Resource Page for all the information and links referenced in the Challenge. You are going to want to bookmark this page! There’s a lot of great information and ways you can repeatedly cause good trouble.

Good Trouble Lives On is more than a protest, a rally, an event; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.
See you there!
Please note: Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people. A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
