We need to make every one of them count! Postcard and letter writing is wrapping up, time to look for what else we can do! This weekend is the warmup to GOTV, and then starting 10/26 it’s all GOTV all the time. Our Events section has something for everyone ready to DO SOMETHING. We know that’s all of you, we’ve done so much together already! Buses to PA? We have those! Note, they fill up fast, so sign up right away! Phone banks! Texting! Poll worker training! And canvassing, lots and lots of canvassing. Grab a friend and go knock some doors!
We asked our friend Laura for some inspiration to get us going:
Are you excited?! Are you ready for Madam President?! For Coach VP?? 19 days to sprint. 19 days to give it our all. 19 days of door knocking, talking to our neighbors, phone banking, and vote chasing. And as I look around at all of us, at this coalition we’ve built with grit and determination and perseverance, slogans just don’t cut it. Nevertheless, she persisted. With enough snowflakes, we become a blizzard. I am the storm. It’s not enough. I come back to the same one every time. Hope is a discipline. After 2016, we picked ourselves up. We got back in the ring. “You want a Muslim ban 45? Ha! We’ve got attorneys showing up at the airports!” “You want to take away our healthcare? Lol! We’re going to flood the senate and get 3 GOP senators to keep the ACA!” “You want to take away our rights? ROTFL! We’re going to blue wave our state in 2018 like you haven’t seen!” Hope digs deep. Hope knocks on doors. Hope and a belief in a better tomorrow makes millions of phone calls and raises over a billion dollars! Kamala Harris knows this. It’s why Doug calls her a Joyful Warrior. Laughter is the best medicine and the best weapon. Laugh at the fake strongman to show how weak he is. “They want to what?! How weird is that?? lol!”
If laughter is our weapon, hope is our armor. Hope shields us from despair, from that malaise, from that media frenzy of “oh no…the stock market dropped 100 points. That’s bad for Harris! But also, the stock market was up 100 points and that’s bad for Harris too!” The media wants a horse race. I said it in 2020 after RBG passed us the torch and I will say it again now: F*&@. That. Noise. We are in this race. In every special election since the fall of Roe, the Democratic candidates have outperformed polls by 10-15 points. Do you know how many races are decided in margins less than that?! Pretty much all of them! A red wave is coming in 2022? HA! We picked ourselves up, we got off the internet and into buses and cars and knocked on doors. We got onto our phones. We chased those votes! We The People held the senate! We The People turned that red wave into a red whimper! And We The People have millions of allies here with us! Y’all, we’ve got this! We have the discipline of hope! We have Joy! We have Laughter! Fear? HA! What’s to fear when we have each other pulling us across that finish line? We know this drill. We’ve been here before and we are READY! I’m ready to hold our seats! I’m ready to flip NJ 7. I’m ready to Take Back The House! The Senate? I’m ready to hold that and expand our seats! Florida and Texas – I’m ready to see them flip blue! I’m ready for Madam President! 19 days – all gas! I’m ready to cry happy tears on election night as state after state gets called for Harris! I love being a joyful warrior. I love going through this with all of you! And I’m ready to see us win this whole damn thing! We've got this! WE know this drill. We've run it a thousand times. It's muscle memory now. We are READY! One more slogan: Let’s F-ing Go!
Speaking of doing something, we got over 3000 postcards written to voters in CD 7 in just 8 days! Yesterday we had FOUR postcard parties going and wrote 2300! And had a blast doing it, our volunteers are THE BEST. We got this report from one group:
“I got the packets of postcards right after dinner tonight. Immediately several other Crane's Mill residents asked if they could help. Four of us did the cards assembly line fashion and got most of them into the outgoing mail. One resident took a batch home and will do them tonight, and tomorrow. We were all very glad to do what we can to help the District 7 candidate win.”
