Please join us on Saturday 10/8 for an important rally!
More rally details here.

With one month of campaigning to go, our endorsed candidates are getting quite a workout — and it's time for our volunteers to do the same thing. If you've been sitting this election out till now, it's not too late ... but we'll be honest: pretty soon, it will be too late. We all know what can happen when a candidate doesn't get strenuous support from their biggest supporters. We all know how the morning after feels.

So we're going to ask: Are you ready to get into gear?

There are lots of ways you can help
, both out and about in CD11 communities and in the comfort of your own home, both physically and digitally.

First and foremost (and most physical of all), there's canvassing. We all know that canvassing is the most direct, most effective way to get our voters to show up for the election rather than shrugging their shoulders and sitting it out.

But for that to happen, volunteers can't shrug their shoulders and sit it out, either. And what we're seeing out on the street and hearing from campaigns is that volunteers ARE sitting it out this election season.

That does not bode well, no matter what the polls say. We know the far right is fired up. What about us?

Keeping Congress is CRUCIAL to the future of our country. That means we can't be complacent about campaigns in and around our district — most notably Mikie Sherrill's and Tom Malinowski's, in CD11 and CD7 respectively. Both campaigns are in dire need of volunteers to knock doors and talk to voters so we don't wake up with MAGA-loving far right candidates stealing their seats.

There are no end of opportunities to canvass. Just scroll down to our Events & Volunteer Opportunities section at the end of this newsletter to find out where and when you can contribute your time and effort to help save democracy, reproductive rights, our planet's climate, LGBTQ+ rights ... you get the picture. Pick a morning or an afternoon, slip into some comfy shoes, sign up and show up.

Sherrill's opponent, Paul DeGroot (R), believes that SCOTUS was right to overturn Roe v. Wade. He also thinks that including accurate Black history in school curriculum, and showing respect for LGBTQ+ students and families, is "socialist propaganda."

Malinowski's opponent, Tom Kean, Jr. (R) maintains a "secret" website (shared only with supporters) that brags, "Tom is a fierce defender of the sanctity of life, fighting every step of the way to protect the unborn from egregious abortion laws proposed in New Jersey, and will continue to do so in Congress."

If that doesn't make you lace up your canvassing shoes, we don't know what will.

Another physical thing you can do to help is to write postcards — NOW!

We're doing an intensive get-out-the-vote postcarding campaign, starting now! Messaging is short and sweet and easy to write, focused on the issue polling shows is the most motivating to get voters to the polls this year: Abortion rights.

We've got the postcards, we've got the address lists. All you need are stamps and the time and commitment to write them and mail them. Ready to get going? Email us here with "POSTCARDING" in the subject line and we'll coordinate getting a stack of postcards into your hot little hands!

Prefer to work digitally? Sure, no problem.

In the final weeks and days of the campaigh, we will be vote-chasing — hard. It won't look hard. It'll look pretty comfy, actually: feet up, computer or phone out, sending texts to voters who haven't taken advantage of vote-by-mail or early in-person voting.

Vote-chasing through text messaging is especially satisfying because you can whip through literally hundreds or even thousands of texts before your tea gets cold! And voters are genuinely appreciative of the information our texts provide: how to find their polling place, what days and hours they can cast a vote in person, where the nearest drop box for their mail ballot is, and so much more.

Email us here with "VOTE CHASING" in the subject line and we'll contact you when the time comes.

Another way you can work digitally?

GO PUBLIC with your political opinions among your friends, family, and neighbors. The time for being shy is over.

If you're like us, you've been flabbergasted at how many people you meet who just don't know anything about the midterm elections. They don't know who's running, they don't know what the candidates stand for, they don't know who to vote for. They may not know that they've been redistricted and have a whole new, unfamiliar set of candidates to vote for. They need you to guide them.

How? It's simple. Use your personal social media platforms to share positive stories about the candidates you support, share damning information about their opponents, and share your opinions. Tweet them, post them on Facebook, share them on Instagram. Heck, create a TikTok video — or have your kid do it! This is your chance to go viral.

If you live in Tom Malinowski's district, CD7 (or know people who do), here are some links you can post for people in your community to see:

If you live in Mikie Sherrill's district, CD11, here are some great shares:

  • Our [just slightly snarky] graphic comparing Mikie and her Trump-lovin' opponent. You can copy-paste the image from right here:

  • Mikie's upcoming debate schedule!
    — Sunday, Oct. 23: New Jersey Globe Debate
    — Tuesday, Oct. 25: League of Women Voters Debate
    — Wednesday, Oct. 26: Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ Candidate Forum (register here)

  • The latest Mikie Sherrill ad calling out her opponent's dangerous, misogynistic, anti-choice approach to abortion rights.

Post something every day ... and before you know it, you'll be an influencer!

The time is NOW to make your stand. The midterm elections — and our control of Congress — aren't a lost cause, but they're not a sure thing either. We need your help! Whether you want to do something in-person, or something digital, please check out the opportunities listed below.

Get physical, or get digital.
One way or another,
GET INVOLVED!
Volunteering is up to ALL of us.

We hope to see you out there!

NJ 11th FOR CHANGE OPPORTUNITIES

POSTCARDING WITH NJ 11th for CHANGE!
We've got the postcards, we've got the address lists. All you need are stamps and the time and commitment to write them and mail them. Ready to get going? (Can't write but want to donate stamps or stamp-money? Email us!)

  • Operation Diggin’ Up the Dirt: Mikie’s opponent, Paul DeGroot, is a hard-right Trumper. He is also keeping very quiet in the public sphere about his positions; suspiciously quiet, one might say. We’re building a team to gather intel about his positions — and anything else that voters need to know.

To get involved, contact NJ 11th for Change Research Director Patricia Doherty, and put “DEGROOT RESEARCH” in the subject line.

  • Tabling at Events: Is your town planning any civic events, festivals, street fairs, or farmers markets? Let us know, so we can help your community get ready to vote! There's nothing more satisfying than setting up shop at a local community event and encouraging constituents to vote or learn about their candidates. If you're interested, please email Mara! We're looking for volunteers to:

    • tell us about events in their towns and counties, and
    • come on out and staff the tables!

  • Vote-By-Mail Letter Campaign: WHOA! We're up to 42,000 packets out and distributed, thanks to NJ 11th for Change Field Director Stacey Abenstein and a squad of nose-to-the-grindstone volunteers — who could use your help right about now!

Not all NJ voters know they have to actively request a mail-in ballot this year. But YOU can give them the information and the tools they need to make it happen. We’ll provide the official VBM request forms and a list of names and addresses; you provide postage, post-its, and envelopes. Write a quick personal note on the post-it encouraging the recipient to vote by mail, stick it to the request form, stuff it in the envelope, and send it off! We have a tight list of in-district voters who need this little push to significantly increase their turnout rates. Let’s make it easy for them to do the right thing!

Interested in helping? Email us here and put “VBM CAMPAIGN” in the subject line. (Can't write but want to donate stamps or stamp-money? Use the same email address to contact us!)

Here's a quick peek at a recent delivery:

  • Working America Letter-Writing Campaign: You know that NJ 11th for Change usually focuses close to home — no national campaigns that make us roam far afield. HOWEVER! We do make one exception! Our volunteers have been participating in Working America's national letter campaign for several years, with terrific success! Working America (the activism branch of AFL-CIO) is a data-driven organization with its finger on the pulse of their electorate, and they have a meticulously field-tested, proven strategy for swinging votes in tight races. They know exactly which voters to touch, and exactly what issues and messages will do the job.

How does it work? You will be sent a document with the text of a carefully crafted letter, focused on one of three core issues that (research shows!) turns red voters blue. You'll also get a list of addresses. Type a few additional personal sentences into the document, print it out, sign it by hand, stuff it in an envelope and mail it off with a handwritten address. Print, sign, and stuff till you’ve completed your list! (You’ll need to provide stationery and stamps.) Our experienced volunteers say that it’s quicker and easier than writing postcards … and the vote-swing rate is the envy of grassroots groups from coast to coast!

Interested in helping? Get on the list by emailing NJ 11’s Working America expert, Jim Price, and putting “WORKING AMERICA” in the subject line. (Can't write but want to donate stamps or stamp-money? Email Jim!)
