I.C.E.'s abuse of power is not a problem just in border states — it's a problem right here in New Jersey! But what can we do about it?

When most of us think of I.C.E. and the mistreatment of immigrants, we think of our southern border. But I.C.E. is active — and terrorizing local immigrant families — right here in our state. They manage to operate largely under the radar, and few people understand the nature of their extrajudicial actions or the extent of their abuses.

It's time to shine a light on the human rights violations occurring in New Jersey detention centers, how appallingly little oversight I.C.E. is subject to, why their actions are so devastating to immigrant communities, why our local governments are choosing to facilitate I.C.E.'s actions, and — most importantly — what WE can do about it.

Please join us on Tuesday, June 22 at 7:00 pm for a LIVE online discussion with Kathy O'Leary, a longtime advocate for the release of people in immigration detention and the closure of local I.C.E. facilities. She is currently the NJ-region coordinator of Pax Christi and a member of the policy committee for NJ Prison Justice Watch, and she works on the campaign for "Releases Not Transfers." Previously Kathy has served on the board of First Friends of NJ/NY. She will be joined by advocate Carlos Sierra of First Friends.
