Just emerging from the holidays and feeling overwhelmed by the *$&%# of news? Yeah us too.
This year is going to be a LOT. We are going to need each other, and we are going to need to support everyone in our communities. Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and yes, we know, Inauguration Day. We won’t be spending time watching the news or doomscrolling social media.
Instead, we will be helping our neighbors by collecting high demand supplies for both the Human Needs Food Pantry and Toni’s Kitchen.
Requested items:
- Boxes of cereal
- Boxes of pasta
- Warm winter gloves
- Men’s socks
- Men’s and children’s underwear
- Diapers–larger sizes preferred
- Diaper wipes
Sign up here and stop by anytime between 11 am and 2 pm to drop off your donations, share some cocoa and snacks, and prepare a message to our State legislators and Federal representatives. We’ll collect and share your thoughts on the most important things you want them to focus on this year. Can’t make it on Monday between 11 and 2? Email us and we’ll make alternate arrangements. Donations can also be dropped off at the Morristown Dems office at 11 Washington Street, Morristown on Monday from 12-4.
We will be making sure all our elected officials know that we need them to find every possible way to stand up to the new administration. And of course, we are one of only two states that have elections for Governor and Legislature this year. The stakes for those have never been higher. It’s time to get to work.
Social Media Update:
Facebook has been a dumpster fire for a while now and then Zuck decided he could make it worse. This newsletter is one place we know our voice won’t be throttled, so look for it each week and share it with your friends. We will be doing everything we can to pressure our Governor and Legislators to protect New Jersey. We will be issuing calls to action every week both here and in the Facebook group (we are over on BlueSky too. Have you joined yet?)
Finally, Robert Hubbell shared some thoughts last week that really spoke to us and we hope they will resonate with you too:
“We must lean into this battle, especially on days when it seems that the world has gone mad. We must maintain our sanity and clarity of purpose: We will defend the rule of law, we will oppose an agenda that seeks to deny the liberty, dignity, security, and safety of hundreds of millions of Americans. Do not doubt the righteousness of our cause. Don’t waste time with issue-spotters angling for consulting contracts in 2026 and 2028. We have real work to do. Let’s get to it!”
